San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance is a nonprofit international conservation leader, committed to inspiring a passion for nature and creating a world where all life thrives. Empowering people from around the globe to support our mission to conserve wildlife through innovation and partnerships, we support cutting-edge conservation, and bring the stories of our work back to our two world-famous front doors - the San Diego Zoo and San Diego Zoo Safari Park - giving millions of guests, in person and virtually, the opportunity to experience conservation in action. The deep and extensive knowledge gained from more than a century of experience in wildlife care, health, veterinary services, nutrition and conservation makes us invaluable in the global effort to save species. Our team members play a crucial role in driving our conservation efforts forward and bringing us closer to a world where all life thrives.

HOW YOU WILL IMPACT OUR MISSION
The Sustainable Partnerships & Business Development intern will help generate ideas and create tools and strategies that support sustainable partnerships and non-gate revenue growth. After learning about our approach and philosophy, this intern will help develop a Sustainability Scorecard to evaluate and prioritize partners based on alignment with SDZWA's conservation mission and brand. Additionally, they will research companies within a priority industry and their sustainability initiatives to create a proposal and pitch deck for why a particular company would be a beneficial partner for SDZWA. This work will help us establish criteria for evaluation and strategize new ways to engage with organizations interested in supporting SDZWA's conservation work, business development program, and our sustainability initiatives.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Develop a scorecard to assess potential and existing partners on their alignment with SDZWA's sustainability goals. This tool will help business development prioritize prospects and streamline outreach to partners with shared conservation values.
  • Identify and outline potential sustainability-focused sponsorships (e.g., waste reduction, renewable energy, eco-friendly guest experiences) to support goals of business development and sustainability teams.
  • Conduct research into a priority industry. Outline case study for a specific company, create a pitch deck, and present it to our teams.
