Your personal sphere of play:
We invite applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher position in the group of Ivo Hofacker at the Department of Theoretical Chemistry. Our team works on the development of algorithms and methods for problems in Computational Chemistry, Systems Chemistry, and Computational Biology, with a special focus on RNA structure and bioinformatics.
The position is to be filled for the duration of an employee's absence. An extension beyond this period is considered depending on availability.
Your future tasks:
We are seeking an ambitious, early-career researcher passionate about RNA bioinformatics. As part of our team, you will participate in research, teaching & administration. Specifically you will:
- Develop an independent research profile that complements the group’s activities.
- Share your research through publications in top-tier journals and presentations at leading conferences.
- Contribute to grant applications and secure third-party funding.
- Contribute to the department's teaching activities.
- Hold courses independently within the scope of the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.
- Participate in development and maintenance of the ViennaRNA Package software.
- Participate in collaborative projects with groups in RNA biology.
- Supervise the research conducted by master's and doctoral students.
- Take on administrative tasks in research, teaching and administration.
This is part of your personality:
Minimum Requirements:
- PhD/Doctorate in bioinformatics, computer science, theoretical chemistry, or related disciplines
- Strong programming skills (preferably Python and C/C++)
- Expertise in RNA bioinformatics
- Proven ability to publish in leading international journals
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team
- Fluency in English (written and spoken)
Desirable Expertise:
- Experience in design, implementation, and usage of bioinformatics algorithms
- Experience working with the ViennaRNA software package, both as user and developer
- Familiarity with recent developments in RNA structure prediction, such as incorporation of structure probing data
- Experience in RNA sequence design problems
