Job Summary
Provides quality instruction that will contribute to the learning experiences necessary for each student to meet the objectives of the course and to be successful in both their education and career development experiences.
Essential Duties
- Assists the program director in the adherence to and review of program practices to meet accreditation standards.
- Conforms to college regulations regarding textbook selection and replacement.
- Meets classes on time and regularly as scheduled, and arrives 15 minutes prior to the start of all lab or clinical sessions.
- Posts and maintains appropriate office hours either in person or remotely.
- Teaches one evening class per year or one summer term class as needed.
- Attends or participates via remotely in all scheduled faculty meetings.
- Assists in the development of courses as requested by other instructors or the program director.
- Assists the clinical coordinator, program director, and/or administrative assistant on a variety of projects as needed.
- Reports any student concerns (academic, clinical, or behavioral) to the clinical coordinator, program director, or Dean as they arise.
- Reports any clinical equipment or supply concerns to the clinical coordinator as they arise.
- Maintains and emphasizes safe working conditions and practices in the labs/clinic, classrooms, department offices, supply area, and sterilization room.
- Adheres to the same dress code, grooming, and PPE requirements as mandated for students who are participating in lab or clinical activities.
- Understands and abides by college policies and regulations.

Minimum and Desired Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in dental hygiene for clinical/lab instruction OR Bachelor’s degree in dental hygiene or related field for didactic course instruction
- Active dental hygiene license in any state
- Two (2) years of experience in a clinical dental hygiene practice
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Desired Qualifications
- Possession of a personal liability insurance policy
- Possession of an expanded practice permit
- Possession of a restorative endorsement and experience
- Possession of a nitrous oxide permit
- Teaching experience
- Community or volunteer experience in the dental field
Additional Qualifications and/or Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
Additional Requirements
- Instructors must complete at least three (3) educational methodology courses each year
- Instructors must complete at least 12 hours of continuing education each year in area(s) of instruction
Working Conditions and Important Information
Working Conditions
Work is typically performed in a classroom environment, including clinical labs which provide patient care. Some work may be performed while sitting at a computer terminal.
Salary
Salary placement will be based on applicable education and/or years of relevant equivalent experience at the sole discretion of the College, per the guidelines in the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement. Please include all relevant education and full and part-time experience in your application that you want the College to review towards potential placement. Hired employees will not have an opportunity to update past education and/or experience or appeal initial placement after the time of hire.
Part-time Instructors may teach classes within a variety of programs, including credit-based, Community Education, and ABE, GED, and ESL programs. There is no guaranteed minimum teaching load or hours worked.
