Job Description
Texarkana College is seeking a highly qualified and enthusiastic Physics Instructor to join our faculty. The successful candidate will have a passion for teaching and a strong background in physics. The primary responsibility of this position is to provide quality instruction to our diverse student body. This is a full-time position with a competitive salary and benefits package.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- Doctorate or Master’s degree in required, and at least 18 graduate level hours in the subject being taught.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Strong knowledge and understanding of physics principles, theories, and applications.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in using educational technologies and software for instructional purposes.
- Demonstrated commitment to student success and fostering an inclusive learning environment.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and collaborate with colleagues.
- Flexibility and willingness to take on additional duties as needed.
- Membership in a professional association tied to area of instruction preferred.
- Ability to develop and complete projects without continued direct supervision.
Experience:
- Previous experience teaching physics at a community college or higher education institution is highly desirable
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Conducts college-level courses in the field of physics and astronomy.
- Areas of instruction include mechanics, quantum physics, nuclear physics, optics, and mathematical physics.
- Prepares and delivers effective lectures and other teaching materials in physics courses.
- Uses a variety of teaching strategies to engage students and promote a deeper understanding of the subject matter.
- Develops course syllabi, lesson plans, and assessments in alignment with the college’s curriculum and learning outcomes.
- Provides timely feedback and grades to students and maintains accurate records of their progress.
- Conducts laboratory sessions, demonstrations, and experiments to enhance students’ practical knowledge and skills.
- Holds regular office hours to provide academic support and guidance to students.
- Stays updated with advancements in physics education and incorporates relevant technologies and resources into instruction.
- Participates in departmental meetings, curriculum development, and educational initiatives.
- Collaborates with colleagues to ensure the effectiveness of the physics program and provides assistance in program assessment and accreditation processes.
- Engages in professional development activities to enhance teaching skills and knowledge of physics.
- Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Manages physics storage and inventory.
- Supervises and facilitates physics adjuncts and dual credit instructors.
Salary Range:
Commensurate within the Texarkana College pay scale for position.
