This is an exciting opportunity to join the expanding outpatient Psychiatry service in La Jolla. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in psychiatric nursing, with a focus on outpatient care, and hold a valid nursing license in the state. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are crucial, enabling effective interaction with patients, families, and colleagues. Additionally, a deep understanding of mental health disorders, medications, and therapeutic techniques, along with a commitment to continuous learning and staying updated on advancements in psychiatric care, will be fundamental in delivering high-quality and holistic care to our diverse patient population.
As a vital member of our psychiatry team, the RN will be responsible for physician in basket management in line with scope of practice, responding to symptom escalations and triage calls of patients, monitoring and administration of medications, assisting in safe medication practices, and provide crisis intervention using empathetic listening and compassion for patients, and other duties that fall within the RN scope of practice. The position reports up to the Manager of Outpatient Psychiatry Services. Required travel between UCSD sites, including Hillcrest and Rancho Bernardo.
Autonomous nursing care is the ability of a nurse to assess and provide nursing actions as appropriate for patient care populations based on competence, professional expertise, and knowledge. The nurse is expected to practice autonomously consistent with ANA Standards of Practice and Professional Performance. Independent judgment is expected to be exercised within the context of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to patient care.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSMust be a graduate from an accredited school of Nursing.
RN License issued by the State of California.
BART or BLS certification at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date.
Minimum two (2) years RN experience in an ambulatory setting.
- BSN.
- One year working with psychiatric population.
- Experience with interventional psychiatric treatments (i.e., ketamine and electroconvulsive therapy).
- Experience with EPIC, EMR.
- Previous UCSD Experience.
- Bilingual in both Spanish and English.
- Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
- Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
- Selected candidate may be hired at the CNIII/CNIV level pending review and approval by the Nurse Executive Council.
Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $123,902 - $173,659 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $59.34 - $83.17
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
