Research Technologist
Job Description
The Enteric Vaccine and Immunology laboratory at the department of International Health, Johns Hopkins University is seeking a full-time Research Technologist to assist with ongoing projects in the lab. This position would involve providing laboratory and analytical assistance for several studies including diagnostic assay development, vaccine clinical trials and immune responses to vaccines and disease. A successful candidate should have knowledge and experience with basic laboratory techniques and must be able to work independently and under limited supervision. The position involves primarily laboratory work involving several laboratory techniques relevant to the research.
The candidate should be able to follow established procedures or protocols and work with his/her supervisor to develop or optimize new protocols or assays and design experimental approaches for research projects as needed. The position requires work with biohazardous materials in a BSL 2 setting, and the candidate must follow all necessary safety precautions for working in such an environment. Highly motivated candidates may also have the opportunity to assist with data analysis and make scientific contributions to preparing manuscripts.
A successful candidate will have the following,
- A bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry or a related field.
- One plus years of lab experience with demonstrated independence and increasing responsibilities.
- Experience using ELISA to determine antibody titers in biological samples. Experience with multiple types of ELISA formats is a plus.
- Experience in multiplex assays.
- Experience with blood and stool processing and preparation for the above-mentioned assays.
- Bacterial culture and basic microbiology experience.
- Exceptional record keeping practices.
- Excellent communication skills involving internal updates on project progress and external presentations of data to stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry or related field.
- Some related post-undergraduate work experience preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
- A Masters Degree in Biology, Chemistry or a related field.
- 1+ years of lab experience with demonstrated independence and increasing responsibilities.
- Mammalian cell culture.
- PCR and qPCR.
- Clinical trials coordination and related sample organization and sample banking.
- Familiarity with SOPs and their importance in a GLP environment.
