Job Summary
The Comparative Literature department is looking to hire up to 6 GSIs, each at a 0.5 appointment, for "Writing World Literatures" in Winter 2025 term.
Course Description
Writing World Literatures is an intensive writing course designed to increase cultural literacies and to fulfill the first-year writing requirement (FYWR). It requires intense work on composition, argumentation, and contextualization of the creative texts from a comparative perspective. Topics and readings vary by instructor.
The course content should be designed with the understanding that this is, first and foremost, a first-year writing course whose goal is to prepare students to write in diverse academic contexts. While the GSI may choose the topic and the readings for their section of COMPLIT 122, it isn't a "topics course". It is a course whose topic is the pretext, ground, and provocation for the teaching of college writing. You should avoid designing too specialized a course. The expectation is that writing courses should appeal to a broader student population.

Responsibilities*
Under the supervision of the Comparative Literature Director of Undergraduate Studies, the GSI is the instructor of record and is responsible for designing a course syllabus, leading one recitation section (meets twice weekly for 1.5 hours each day), holding weekly office hours for individual consultation with students; evaluates student writing; meeting with the Director of Undergraduate Studies as arranged. Attend GSI training, scheduled in early December (date/time TBD).

1) Enrollment demand, 2) Faculty preference, 3) Relevant experience, 4) External applicants only if unfilled by Comparative Literature GSI.
