Job Summary

The Department of Psychiatry maintains a large and diverse portfolio of research that is dedicated to increasing our knowledge of depression, bipolar, and anxiety disorders, addiction/substance use, and other brain conditions.  Our funding comes from many different sources including the National Institutes of Health, Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, foundations, and industry.  We are a large team dedicated to supporting our faculty in all aspects of research administration from proposal planning and submission to post-award project management and closeout.  

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Administrator to join our team in Psychiatry Grants Administration.  The successful candidate will provide cradle-to-grace support of faculty portfolios while ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations and University policies.  We are looking for someone who has a positive attitude, is eager to learn, and has a passion for providing exceptional customer service to our faculty, project teams, and colleagues within the Department, Medical School, and University.  We offer a positive, supportive, and caring environment as well as the opportunity to work fully remote.

Responsibilities*

Perform pre-award administrative activities for assigned faculty.  Activities include but are not necessarily limited to developing budgets, budget justifications, preparing Proposal Approval Forms, and other core financial and administrative documents in support of both internal and external grant proposal submissions.  Ensure that all applications meet agency and university guidelines, while meeting internal and external deadlines.

Perform post-award administrative activities for assigned faculty.  Activities include but are not necessarily limited to reconciling and analyzing grant accounts, including trending and forecasting expenses and funding, including oversight of  cost shares; monitoring Uniform Guidance expenses; processing budget reallocations, Post Award Change Requests, Financial Status Reports, and Uniform Guidance Reports; administer and monitor subcontract activity; and investigate/resolve discrepancies.

Required Qualifications*

     Educational & Experiential Requirements: 

Research Administrator Senior Level - Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of grant/contract experience or equivalent combination of education and experience

Research Administrator Intermediate Level - Bachelor's degree and 3 years of grant/contract experience or equivalent combination of education and experience

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
