Job Description

BASIC FUNCTION: The primary responsibility of this position includes general housekeeping duties and performing classroom, conference and special event set-ups as directed. Secondary responsibilities are to assist with Grounds Department or Building Maintenance Department functions as necessary to provide a flexible position within a team environment. Multiple shifts are available for this position and are as follows: Tuesday-Friday 4:00 p.m. to midnight and Saturday 3:00-11:00 p.m.; Monday-Thursday 4:00 p.m. to midnight and Sunday 3:00-11:00 p.m.; Tuesday-Saturday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

SALARY AND BENEFITS: Base salary of $16.03 per hour in accordance with Facilities Management category agreement. Benefits package includes Blue Cross/Blue Shield health insurance; eye care, dental, life and disability insurance; paid vacation and sick leave; a choice of IPERS or TIAA retirement plans; and a variety of additional optional benefits.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent. Must be dependable, possess good work habits and have the ability to get along well with people. Position requires a valid driver’s license.

PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS: Lift, carry, push and pull objects that weigh up to 50 pounds frequently and heavier objects occasionally (e.g. furniture, supplies, trash s and equipment). Bending, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, along with considerable walking and standing, are required.

EQUIPMENT USED INCLUDES: Ability to efficiently use floor care machines and equipment, along with miscellaneous hand tools, power tools, ladders, forklift, platform lift, snow blowers, and pickup truck.  

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

• Clean and maintain the facilities to established standards. This specific task requires several types of cleaning skill levels and the ability to utilize related equipment efficiently. Included are vacuuming, dusting, sanitizing bathrooms, shampooing, collecting and removing all recyclables and trash, and operating motorized floor buffers and scrubbers.
• Assist in the preparation and clean up for classroom, conference, and special events as needed to meet customer satisfaction. This specific task requires good custodial and time management skills.
• Assemble, repair, move and deliver miscellaneous furniture and equipment. This specific task requires the ability to follow product specific instructions for proper assembly. This task also requires good dexterity and basic mechanical skills. At times, heavy lifting will be required.
• Assist the Grounds Supervisor or Assistant Facilities Director with miscellaneous duties as assigned. This specific task requires the ability to assist with snow removal, mowing, washing vehicles, trash pick-up, or other tasks as assigned. It also requires the ability to assist with minor repairs of building components, miscellaneous equipment and accessories (e.g. replacing light bulbs, mounting boards, etc.) or other tasks assigned.
• Use and care for equipment properly, including regular and preventative maintenance. This specific task requires that all equipment be routinely inspected and any problems reported to the Custodial Supervisor.
• Follow all safety codes, regulations, and established procedures. Comply with all local, state and national codes. Safety updates and training programs will be provided and attendance will be mandatory. Use appropriate products to the advantage of the College and handle all hazardous chemicals properly following product specific instructions.
• Work overtime as assigned. Working more than 40 hours per week will be required during snow events to remove snow, as well as during special events for set up/take down.
• Perform in a manner which strengthens the coordination and cooperation of all organizational components of the College, including opportunities for student recruitment.
