Job Summary

The Chabot-Las Positas Community College District is seeking a PT Instructor, English as a Second Language for Las Positas College.  Applicants will be expected to provide instruction in all levels of ESL, beginning to advanced.  Classes may include reading and writing, grammar, vocabulary, oral communication and pronunciation.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Ability to teach beginning through college level, grammar, reading, composition, vocabulary, oral communication and pronunciation; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; ability to adapt instructional techniques to accommodate varied learning styles; commitment to working successfully as a team with colleagues
  2. Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of community college students including those with physical or learning disabilities
  3. Flexibility to teach morning, afternoon, evening, and weekend classes

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s in TESL, TESOL, applied linguistics with a TESL emphasis, linguistics with a TESL emphasis, English with a TESL emphasis or education with a TESL emphasis OR Bachelor’s in TESL, TESOL, English with a TESL certificate, linguistics with a TESL certificate, applied linguistics with a TESL certificate, or any foreign language with a TESL certificate AND Master’s in linguistics, applied linguistics, English, composition, bilingual/bicultural studies, reading, speech or any foreign language OR the equivalent.

Evidence of understanding of and responsiveness to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, racial and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practices within the classroom.

Applicants applying under the “Equivalent” provision must provide details that explain at time of application how their academic preparation is the equivalent of the degree listed above.

  1. Experience teaching a variety of ESL classes at the Community College level
