The Mission of The Stanley Home Museum and Education Center:

“The Stanley Home Museum & Education Center strives to educate and inspire diverse audiences by developing a deeper understanding of F.O. and Flora Stanley’s experiences, character, and leadership through the interpretation and preservation of the history, context, and culture of the historic Stanley home.”

The Stanley Home Museum and Education Center is supported by The Historic Stanley Home Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with the mission “to purchase, renovate, preserve, and operate Rockside, the F.O. Stanley home as a cultural center for local history education. The home will be an enduring reminder of the evolution and development of Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park.”

Brief History of The Historic Stanley Home Foundation and the Stanley Home Museum and Education Center:

The Historic Stanley Home Foundation was formed in the fall of 2016 and was able to raise over $1.3 million to purchase the Historic Stanley Home in February 2020. At that time, over 500 individuals had added their names to the “First 500” list of those in Estes Park who “believe that preserving Mr. and Mrs. Stanley's 1904 home as a cultural center for local history education will forever save a remarkable local treasure.” In 2020, the Historic Stanley Home was placed on the Colorado Register of Historic Places, and also received a grant from History Colorado for structural assessment in preparation for historic preservation projects. The Stanley Home Museum & Education Center opened in May 2021.

Executive Director Position Summary:

The Stanley Home Museum and Education Center Executive Director position provides a unique opportunity for an energetic, dynamic individual with initiative and vision to continue to create and shape the development of a new and growing Museum and Education Center in the Estes Valley, arguably one of the most beautiful places within one of the most sophisticated and rapidly growing regions of the United States.

The Executive Director is responsible for executing the Stanley Home Museum and Education Center’s mission, ensuring the Museum’s long-term sustainability, and manages all of the Museum’s daily operations, special programs, and finances. The Executive Director oversees the Stanley Home Museum and Education Center staff and coordinates all volunteer activities including tours, guides, programs, events, transportation, committees, and fundraising. The Executive Director regularly represents the Stanley Home Museum and Education Center in the public eye, attends events that support community organizations, and builds relationships that strengthen the public appreciation of the Museum and encourages collaboration between the Museum, other local museums, community organizations and businesses.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Museum Operations: Oversees and implements appropriate resources to ensure that the operations of the Museum are effective and efficient.

· Organizes and manages the Stanley Home Museum and Education Center’s daily activities including tours, guides, transportation, and special events.

· Develops and manages the planning, speakers, promotion, execution and evaluation of the Museum’s educational programs. Presents some of the Museum’s educational programs.

· Ensures ongoing local programmatic excellence and rigorous program evaluation.

· Responsible for the recruitment and retention of excellent museum staff.

· Ensures that all museum staff receive an orientation to the Museum, that appropriate training is provided, performance is monitored, and periodic performance reviews are completed.

· Actively recruits and energizes the Stanley Home Museum and Education Center’s volunteers, Event Committees, collaborating organizations, and funders.

· Responsible for the enhancement of The Stanley Home Museum and Education Center’s image by being active and visible in the community and by working closely with other local professional, civic and private organizations.

· Oversees marketing and other communications efforts.

Museum Mission and Strategy: Works with the Foundation Board and staff to ensure that the mission is fulfilled through relevant programs and resources.

· Works with the Foundation Board on strategic planning and achievement of Museum’s goals to ensure that the Stanley Home Museum and Education Center can successfully fulfill its mission into the future.

· Provides the board insight and analysis on the effectiveness of programs, services, resources, membership offerings, and opportunities for improvement.

· Establishes and maintains working relationships with the volunteer and staff leadership of other local community organizations, nonprofits, service clubs, and governmental agencies within the Estes Valley and other organizations that serve the Estes Valley.

· Regularly communicates with stakeholders to keep them informed of the work and accomplishments of the Museum.

· Serves as a resource on topics relevant to the Museum.

· Maintains a working knowledge of significant regional and national developments and trends in organizations like the Stanley Home Museum and Education Center.

Financial Performance and Viability: Develops resources sufficient to ensure the financial health of the Museum.

· Responsible for the fiscal integrity of the Stanley Home Museum and Education Center, including the submission of a proposed annual budget and monthly financial statements to the Finance Committee, Treasurer, and Foundation Board, that accurately reflect the financial condition of the Museum.

· Responsible for fiscal management that generally anticipates operating within the approved budget, ensures optimal resource utilization, and maintains a positive financial position for the Museum.

· Conducts day-to-day, financial tasks (deposits, invoices, expenses, budget, data entry).

· Develops goals and action plans for various revenue sources to ensure budget goals are met.

· Maintains official Museum records and documents, and ensures compliance with federal, state and local regulations and reporting requirements.

Fundraising: Responsible for fundraising and developing other resources necessary to support the Stanley Home Museum and Education Center’s mission.

· Works with Foundation Board and committees to develop and implement development and fundraising strategies.

· Responsible for identifying possible grant funding, grant applications, and grant fulfillment reporting.

· Coordinates efforts to fully understand current and prospective donors, subsequent communications, and tracking donor interests, responses, and results in a donor database.

· Works with the Fundraising and Development Committee to craft strong fundraising messages that appeal to current and potential donors.

· Works with committees to implement fundraising strategies and organize fundraising efforts.

· Evaluates fundraising events and other development efforts for continual improvement.

· Trains Board members and volunteers in appropriate fundraising procedures and practices.

Board Governance: Works with Foundation Board in order to fulfill the Museum’s mission.

· Leads the Stanley Home Museum and Education Center in a manner that supports and guides the Museum’s mission as defined by the Foundation Board of Directors.

· Communicates effectively with the Foundation Board President and Board members, provides timely and accurate reports with all information necessary for the Board to function properly and to make informed decisions.

· Works with the Foundation Board and committees on drafting Museum policies and procedures for Board approval. Attends Foundation Board meetings as an ex official member.

· Jointly, with the President and Secretary of the Board of Directors, conducts official correspondence of the Museum, and jointly, with designated officers, executes required legal documents.

Necessary Skills:

· Ability to plan, implement and evaluate educational programs, membership services and collaborative partnerships.

· A proven track record of effective fundraising and development, grant writing and reporting, and commitment to cultivating, developing, sustaining, and retaining donors and sponsors, and is able to identify and generate new revenue streams.

· Skilled at writing clearly and informatively. Is a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills.

· Articulate and comfortable speaking in front of groups and acting as the spokesperson for the Museum. Has exceptional ability to network and build partnerships.

· IT Proficient – including word processing, spreadsheets, graphic design, email, mass email marketing, social media, cloud applications, etc.

· Demonstrated budget development experience, and the ability to interpret, forecast, and monitor the financial condition of the Museum.

· Self-starter, well-organized, goal-oriented, and pays appropriate attention to important detail.

· Experience and ability to organize and lead a professional staff with a management style that embodies respect, trust, teamwork, and collaboration.

· Ability to nurture ongoing relationships with Museum members, The Historic Stanley Home Foundation Board, volunteers and donors.

Knowledge and Skills:

The Executive Director should have some or all of the following:

· Prefer strong background in the nonprofit museum sector, with experience in museums as a museum director and/or program manager including:

o Daily Museum Operations Management

o Volunteer management

o Program development

o Membership management

o Fundraising/development

o Grant writing and reporting

o Community outreach

o Event planning and management

o Staff supervision

o Collections management

· Effective, professional English language writing and public speaking skills are essential.

· Ability to speak effectively to donors, sponsors, members, the general public, and collaborators in one-on-one and group presentation settings.

· Ability to write clear, concise correspondence and reports without grammatical or spelling errors.

· Ability to respond to enquiries or complaints from the public, donors, and members in a prompt, professional and friendly way.

· Must be personable and able to relate and interface effectively with community organizations, businesses and collaborators.

· Must be a self-starter, able to identify and orchestrate tasks necessary to accomplish the Museum’s goals.

· Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree preferred.

· Solves Problems: Assesses problem situations to identify causes, gathers and processes relevant information, generates possible solutions, and makes recommendations and/or resolves the problem.

· Thinks Strategically: Assesses options and actions based on trends and conditions in the environment, and the vision and values of the Museum.

Work Environment: This is a small, casual office with a shared open desk format.

Compensation: $ 65,000 to 75,000 depending expertise and experience.

Holidays and Paid Time Off:

Each permanent full-time employee will receive ten paid holidays annually plus two discretionary holidays.

Paid time off (PTO) is granted to every permanent full-time employee, and accrued beginning with the first full month of employment. PTO cannot be taken during the initial 3-month probationary period, but it does accrue at the usual rate during this time.

For permanent full-time employees, PTO is accrued as follows:

· Years 1-2 10 days per year

· Years 3-5 15 days per year

· Year 6+ 20 days per year

Earned PTO is calculated and accrued on a monthly basis
