About us

Golden Oldies is a 501c3 non-profit that re-homes cats 6 and older from Monterey County whose guardians can no longer care for them or who are at risk in shelters. We place these cats in foster homes while we search for their new forever families.

Job Description: The Executive Director will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the agency (including the management of staff and volunteers), the development of funding sources and growing the organization. This position reports to the Board of Directors Personnel Committee. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Program Management (Intake/Foster/Adoption):

  • Supervise Program Manager (intake/foster/adoptions coordinator) and provide back-up as needed
  • Supervise Volunteer Coordinator and assist as needed
  • Oversee activities of volunteers, including tabling
  • Organize Volunteer/Foster Orientations and volunteer appreciation
  • Manage all data and postings pertaining to adoptable/adopted cats (photos, bios, etc.)
  • Complete Shelter Animals count data at the end of each month

Donor Development & Events:

  • Organize and run all aspects of GOCR participation in Monterey County Gives, including supervision of volunteers, daily social media posts, thank you calls and letters, monitoring the daily donor list and managing print media ads and Mailchimp content
  • Plan and implement the annual anniversary event
  • Identify grant opportunities and develop grant requests
  • Schedule and create ask letters
  • Assist President in regular contacting of donors (cards, letters, phone calls, newsletters)

Marketing/Publicity:

  • Create and place all forms of advertising, including print media and public service announcements
  • Maintain, supervise and update all social media, including activities of social media team
  • Create content for social media and e-newsletters with assistance of volunteers
  • Serve as spokesperson for the organization when needed

Finances:

  • Manage payroll, pay bills, update QuickBooks
  • Prepare financial reports for the Board as requested
  • Provide accountant with all info need for filing annual 990
  • Create and manage approved budget for fiscal year

Operations:

  • Manage Google Drive, including uploading of documents, lists, photos, bios, etc.
  • Keep all organization documents and manuals updated and available in Google Drive
  • Prepare annual report of activities for external audience
  • Supervise the Gmail rotation team
  • Establish staff performance goals for each fiscal year (including goals for Executive Director)

Board Relations:

  • Assist President in creating Agenda and Board Package for each Board meeting
  • Prepare financial report for each Board meeting
  • Prepare an ED Report for each Board meeting

Minimum Qualifications & Skills:

  • Non-profit experience
  • Proven track record in fundraising/donor development/events
  • Experience creating and managing budgets
  • Computer literate, including QuickBooks, Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to effectively utilize social media as a marketing tool
  • Able to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with cats and a passion for our mission of rescuing older cats
  • Must hold a valid California driver’s license and provide proof of insurance
  • Must live in Monterey County
  • Must have the capability and technology to work from a home office
  • Must be available evenings and weekends if needed

Ideal candidates also will have:

  • Animal welfare experience
  • Experience as Executive Director of a non-profit agency

Pay: $69,500.00 - $80,000.00 per year
