CO Dental Hygienist
Job Description
The department of Otolaryngology is seeking a Dental Hygienist who will be primarily responsible for examining patient's oral cavity to include mouth, throat, and pharynx, and record conditions of teeth and surrounding tissues. Refer patients to dentist who have abnormalities to include cavities, defective fillings, suspicious growths, or periodontal disease. Demonstrate proper techniques of brushing, flossing, and use of necessary periodontal aids. Explain the common causes of tooth decay and its relationship to general diet.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Collect medical and dental histories from patients.
- Chart dental conditions based on dentist’s observations and evaluations.
- Perform dental prophylaxis, periodontal scaling, root planning, debridement and apply fluoride and sealants.
- Create molds of patients’ teeth in preparation for dentures, bridges and other prostheses.
- Sterilize dental instruments and tools.
- Instruct patients of all ages on proper dental hygiene and care.
- Take X-rays of patients’ teeth and develop them for dentist’s use.
- Provide chair-side assistance during dental procedures.

Minimum Qualifications
- Associate Degree in Dental Hygiene required (bachelor’s preferred).
- Dental Hygienists shall be a graduate of a dental hygiene program that qualifies them to obtain a state license.
- Current state license required.
- Three years or more experience as a Dental Hygienist.
- Excellent verbal communication skills.
- Basic understanding and knowledge of HIPAA privacy rules.
- Current CPR certification required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree.
