Senior Engineering TechnicianPosition Summary
We are looking for driven senior technicians to join our San Diego, CA team. As a senior technician, you will be responsible for providing TYCOM Material Inspection and Training (TMIT) Support Services for Commander Naval Surface Forces, U.S. Pacific (COMNAVSURFPAC) at Naval Base San Diego, California. You must have a working knowledge of your respective functional area of INSURV Material Inspections; understand the variations of established Schedule of Events, INSURV Inspection Guides (IIG), and their associated references; and be familiar with all INSURV instructions and publications governing the conduct of the inspections and underway demonstrations. You must have a working level of knowledge in Material Maintenance Management (3M) and the Planned Maintenance System (PMS).
Clearance Requirement
- Must be a US citizen with a current active "Secret" DoD security clearance.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Execute and support all READ-E 2, 5, 6, and 7 Material Inspections and assessment events for COMNAVSURFPAC ships.
- Assist the Board of Inspection and Survey (INSURV) during their Material Inspections (MIs) using the SFTRM and INSURV procedures, standards, and guidance.
- Support TYCOM Sea Trials during READ-E 5 using SFTRM, Navy Department Organization and Regulations Manual, International Regulations for Prevention of Collisions at Sea, 1972 (72COLREGS), and U.S. Inland Navigation Rules' procedures, standards, and guidance.
- When requested, conduct TYCOM Assist Visits (TAV) on Pacific Fleet ships.
- Provide analysis to determine the ship's material condition, adherence to ship programs that directly support material readiness, and ship's readiness to execute MI.
- Analyze surface combatant material trends and assess ship class material issues to support attaining expected service life.
- Support efforts to address material shortcomings identified in MI Annual Reports.
- Report results.
Required Education, Skills, and Experience:
- 20 years of documented hands-on experience in one of the following areas:
- Main Propulsion
- Damage Control
- Electrical
- Auxiliaries
- Deck
- Weapons (Gunners Mate)
- Air Warfare (FC/AEGIS)
- Undersea Warfare (STG)
- Communications (IT/ET)
- Navigation (QM)
- Operations (ET/FC)
- Aviation (ABH/ABF)
- Navy Environmental Protection (NEP) (HM/DC, EN, MM)
- Supply/Habitability (CS/LS/RS)
- Scheduler
- Recent experience (within the last 5 years) in your specialty.
- Three (3) at-sea tours working in your specialty; (Two (2) tours for the Supply/ Habitability position).
- Retired Chief or Senior Chief Petty Officer (E7/E8).
- Experience operating and maintaining your specialty's related equipment and support systems.
- Engineering Officer of the Watch (EOOW) qualification on at least one Navy ship (Main Propulsion position).
Highly Desired Qualifications:
- Engineering Officer of the Watch (EOOW) qualification on at least one Navy ship (Electrical and Auxiliaries positions)
- Qualified Electric Plant Control Console (EPCC) operator. (Electrical position)
- Experience as an Inspector for the U.S. Navy Board of Inspection and Survey (INSURV), specifically as a Senior Inspector.
- Experience as an inspector at the Afloat Training Group or TYCOM staff focusing on Pre-INSURV preparations.
- Professional oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work as a team player and demonstrate personal initiative to complete the work of the team as a whole.
- Must be highly reliable and capable of meeting work schedule consistently.
Physical Demands and Expectations:
- Must be willing and able to travel up to 50 percent of the time.
- Able to meet U.S. Navy ship-rider requirements.
- Must be physically able to climb up and down a pilot's ladder and stay onboard a U.S. Naval Vessel for several consecutive days underway.
- Ability to work in an industrial shipboard/shipyard environment, climb shipboard ladders, and wear all required safety equipment.
- Ability to speak, read, hear, and write, with or without assistance.
- Ability to use phone and computer systems, copier, fax, and other office equipment.
