Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES:
SMCC is seeking applications from dynamic individuals with proven abilities to perform skilled student financial aid functions in the areas of student financial aid advising, student employment and file preparation and review in a high volume department. The successful applicant will have demonstrated the ability to achieve and maintain high levels of accountability and accuracy for short and long term project work of a confidential nature. This position will engage in campus financial literacy initiatives, including in-person loan exit counseling sessions and financial aid information sessions. The position provides critical support for telephone, e-mail and walk-in office traffic. The person selected will also have demonstrated the ability to work in a collaborative environment. A positive attitude and stellar work ethic will be qualities of the successful candidate. While prior financial aid experience is preferred, it is not required, we will train the right individual.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associates degree with two (2) years of related higher education experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelors degree in business, finance, education or related field from an accredited college or university
- Two (2) years demonstrated experience with Title IV student financial aid programs
- Related experience working with underserved student populations, preferably in a community college setting
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Federal, state and institutional financial aid regulations
- Student financial aid computer application programs, including PowerFaids
- Familiarity with Jenzabar student information system software
- Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential for this fast-paced environment
- Highly organized and detail oriented
- Excellent time management skills ability to manage and complete multiple complex projects and tasks; team player; meet deadlines
- Ability to communicate, empathize, and assist students and their families with confidential information consistent with the mission of SMCC
- Ability to work independently to ensure that long-term project and goals are effectively implemented
- Working proficiency with all Microsoft office application software packages
