University Health Services (UHS) is a dynamic, fast paced college health practice committed to providing excellent health care to the students of the University of Notre Dame.
Our Registered Nurses are valued members of the UHS team and work collaboratively with our providers, support staff and administrators. The UHS Registered Nurse provides professional college health nursing care and all aspects of services provided demonstrate respect and dignity of the patient, reflect the unique character of the Notre Dame community, and support the teachings of the Catholic Church.
PATIENT CARE: The RN provides direct patient care through assessment, plan of care development, and collaboration with Medical Staff. The RN will evaluate response to care provided and take appropriate measures to assure desired outcomes.
The RN is called upon to provide patient care based on severity of illness and level of services needed. The RN will provide quality health care through collaboration with, and referral to, other healthcare professionals in the department, campus partners, and the local community.
RNs will provide in person and phone triage patient care. The RN may provide testing for COVID, flu and strep and will provide guidance and follow-up instructions. They will also provide recommendations for any other general medical needs.
The RN at UHS has a special role in educating patients of diagnosis, treatment plan, medication use and continuing care needs. Will often need to take into thoughtful consideration the unique needs of the college student including academic expectations, housing arrangements, and social concerns.
PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS: Maintains medical records and other healthcare documents according to requirements to assure patient confidentiality. Participates in quality improvement activities of department. Is accountable for maintaining license and skills required to perform job duties. Pursues professional development.
Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
- Associate’s degree or up to 3 years of college or technical school.
- 3 to 4 years experience.
- Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
- Current Registered Nurse licensure in the state of Indiana.
- CPR with AED certification.
- Possession of critical thinking skills. – Ability to make quick decisions under pressure.
- Ability to educate a diverse student population on areas of self-care, wellness, follow-up treatment, etc.
- Ability to work effectively as a member of a team dedicated to outstanding care of patients.
- Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a hospital setting or physician office practice.
- Experience in, or ability to learn, initiation and management of therapeutic intravenous lines, performing electrocardiograms, CLIA waived testing, and pulmonary function screening tests.
