The Associate Director is a leadership role responsible for managing the operational aspects of Agile practices and delivery within the organization, overseeing and managing multiple technical programs and projects, supporting cross-functional teams, and ensuring alignment with business goals.

The Associate Director will work closely with senior leadership, including Directors and VPs, and provides leadership to a team of Technical Program Managers (TPMs). This role involves strategic planning, cross-team coordination, and continuous process improvement, with a focus on delivering high-quality technical solutions.

This role will be accountable for driving the successful delivery of multiple programs while partnering with cross-functional teams in engineering, product management, and business operations. You will play a key role in aligning technical initiatives with organizational goals, improving program management processes, and mentoring a team of Technical Program Managers. This position offers the opportunity to impact strategic initiatives and scale program management practices across the organization.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Program Management and Delivery
    • Lead Program Execution: Manage and oversee the execution of multiple, large-scale technical programs across engineering, product, and other teams.
    • Program Roadmapping: Collaborate with engineering, product, and business teams to create and maintain program roadmaps that align with business objectives.
    • Delivery Accountability: Ensure programs are delivered on time, within scope, and meet quality standards. Monitor progress and take corrective actions to resolve risks and issues.
    • Risk Mitigation: Proactively identify program risks and work with teams to implement mitigation strategies, ensuring successful program outcomes.
    • Proactively identify high-impact programs, drive quarterly/yearly planning across Technology and ensure our priorities are aligned with the business strategy and approved by our executive team.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
    • Partner with Stakeholders: Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including engineering, product management, operations, and senior leadership, to ensure alignment on program goals and priorities.
    • Coordinate Cross-Team Dependencies: Work with multiple teams across different domains to manage dependencies, resolve bottlenecks, and ensure smooth program delivery.
    • Effective Communication: Provide regular, transparent communication on program progress, risks, and outcomes to stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Team Leadership and Development
    • Lead TPM Team: Oversee and mentor a team of Technical Program Managers, providing coaching and guidance to support their growth and success.
    • Foster Collaboration: Encourage a collaborative culture within the team, ensuring effective communication and coordination across all levels of the organization.
    • Mentor and Develop: Provide professional development opportunities to the TPM team, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
    • Ensure the organizational Technical/Program Management needs are covered by proactively identifying resource gaps and misaligned priorities.
  • Process Improvement and Best Practices
    • Refine Program Management Processes: Implement and continuously improve program management methodologies (e.g., Agile, Scrum, Kanban) to ensure efficient and effective program delivery.
    • Establish Best Practices: Promote best practices for program management, such as standardized reporting, stakeholder communication, and risk management.
    • Metrics and Reporting: Define and track key program metrics, such as velocity, resource utilization, and project health, to measure success and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Strategic Planning and Alignment
    • Align Programs with Strategic Goals: Ensure that all technical programs are aligned with the organization's strategic objectives, focusing on long-term success and scalability.
    • Support Strategic Initiatives: Assist senior leadership in the planning and execution of major initiatives, such as platform migrations, new product launches, or infrastructure upgrades.
    • Resource Planning: Work closely with engineering, product, and finance teams to ensure the optimal allocation of resources for program execution.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Business, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees (e.g. MBA or MS) are a plus.
  • 10+ years of experience, including building and managing a team of Technical Program Managers and leading large-scale or complex technical initiatives.
  • Proven track record of delivering large-scale, cross-functional technical programs on time and within budget.
  • Previous experience in creating a PMO.
  • Proven communication and interpersonal skills, including relationship building and collaboration within a multi-disciplinary, cross-functional team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think strategically about technology and business challenges.
  • Knowledge of software development processes and best practices.
  • Experience working with large-scale datasets.
  • Knowledge of industry best practices and trends.
  • Capable of building credibility and fostering connections with senior executives and team members.
  • Skilled in fostering organizational growth and cultivating a team-oriented atmosphere.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban) and supporting operational frameworks.
  • Certifications: Agile certifications (e.g., CSM, PMI-ACP, SAFe, or equivalent) are desirable.

COMPENSATION: Aya reasonably anticipates the pay scale for this position to be an annual salary of$220,000 to $230,000.

The pay scale for this position may vary if applicant possesses experience outside of what Aya reasonably anticipates for this position. Bonuses are subject to the role and your manager's discretion.
