Job Mission
The purpose of this job is to integrate (mechanically, electrically, and with Labview software) a new system of sensors and NI Data acquisition modules as an update to one of our laboratories. A preliminary activity on our part will be to get the hardware ready before you arrive. You will figure out how to capture the signals in the data acquisition system from all the sensors (and distributed DAQ modules) and determine the Labview software architecture to: display via a single GUI all of the data, log the data, display alarms, act to shut down parts of the system during out of control conditions, and implement automated processes.
This internship will be on-site at the San Diego campus for 12 weeks in summer 2025. Applicants mut be enrolled in a program through at least fall 2025.
Job Description (Heat and mass transport test engineer)
- Gain knowledge of phenomena surrounding instrumentation, data acquisition, and coding
- Install and troubleshoot instrumentation & DAQ
- Write code that integrates, displays, and logs signals
- Write code that generates warnings, and takes action
- Generate schedule of work completion
- Document instrumentation and signal layout, as built
- Report results in a specified format, get peer feedback, and present to stakeholders.
Education, Experience, and Skills Requirements
- Working on a Masters Degree in Physics, Aerospace, Mechanical eng, or similar.
- Experience with Labview coding
- Experience with instrumentation, low voltage signals (analog & digital) including ethernet, serial, etc.
- Capability to install, troubleshoot, repair electric or flow connections
- Must be able to read and interpret data, information, and documents
- Strong analytical skills
Other Information
- This position is located on-site in San Diego, CA. It requires onsite presence to attend in-person work-related events, trainings and meetings and to further ensure teamwork, collaboration and innovation.
- Routinely required to sit; walk; talk; hear; use hands to keyboard, finger, handle, and feel; stoop, kneel, crouch, twist, reach, and stretch. Occasionally required to move around the campus.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Must be willing to work in a clean room environment, wearing coveralls, hoods, booties, safety glasses and gloves for entire duration of shift.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee routinely is required to sit; walk; talk; hear; use hands to keyboard, finger, handle, and feel; stoop, kneel, crouch, twist, reach, and stretch.
The current base annual salary range for this role is currently $18.00 - $48.00. Pay scales are determined by role, level, location and alignment with market data. Individual pay is determined through interviews and an assessment of several factors that that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to job-related skills, relevant education and experience, certifications, abilities of the candidate and pay relative to other team members. This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the United States Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. * 730, et seq.).
