About the Opportunity
The Environmental Health and Safety Technician II, supports the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) team in implementing and maintaining various EHS programs. Assists in identifying workplace hazards, conducting inspections, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations. Organizes, schedules and conducts higher level inspections of facilities, work areas and equipment. Monitors site conditions, practices, and procedures for compliance with health and safety requirements. Collaborates with other departments to promote safety and environmental awareness. Selects and implements corrective action and follows-up to ensure proper action has been taken.
In this role, the successful candidate will:
- Performs all jobs in a safe and responsible manner, following all SOP's and safety requirements.
- Responsible for exhibiting professional behavior with both internal/external business associates that reflects positively on the company and is consistent with the company's policies and practices.
- Maintains working knowledge of all EHS regulatory requirements that affect the company.
- Recognize hazards, and assist in providing corrective action to eliminate or mitigate identified hazards.
- Assists in the maintenance of operating permits, licenses, registrations and reports required by governmental agencies that conform to EHS related laws and regulations.
- Facilitates the removal of the hazardous waste stream at all sites.
- Performs daily check as per instructions on industrial waste water system.
- Actively promotes a culture of safety where employees can develop confidence in ability to participate in company safety programs.
- Assists with regular safety audits on life safety equipment for accessibility and functionality at all sites.
- Assists with regular safety audits to ensure Personal Protective Equipment compliance as required by company policy and local regulations.
- Responds to all alarms and hazardous waste spills.
- Assists with internal safety audits to assure compliance with company policies.
- Participates in training to keep up-to-date with regulatory agency rules and compliance matters.
- Educate, monitor, and train personnel in safe work procedures.
- On-site escort of contractors and vendors.
- On-call responder for alarm calls, 24/7 coverage.
- Conduct thorough and routine safety inspections, identifying potential hazards and recommending corrective actions.
- Assist in incident investigations, performing root cause analysis, and preparing detailed reports.
- Support the development and delivery of EHS training programs for employees and contractors.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal EHS regulations and permits.
- Participate in emergency response planning and drills.
- Assist in the management of hazardous materials, including storage and disposal.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement EHS initiatives.
- Help develop and update EHS policies and procedures to align with changing regulations.
- Maintain EHS records and documentation, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Assist in the evaluation of EHS performance metrics and prepare reports for management.
- Other responsibilities as assigned.
What does it take to be successful?
- Associate degree or higher, in environmental health safety or related field, discipline preferred, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Two or more years of experience as an EHS Technician or in a similar EHS role.
- Working knowledge of federal, state and local related laws and regulations.
- Solid understanding of EHS regulations and best practices.
- Experience in incident investigation and root cause analysis.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications and EHS software tools.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Preferred Department of Transportation Hazardous Materials Transportation certificate (49 CFR 172.704)
- Knowledge of cGMP regulations ISO 13485, 21CFR Part 820, CMDR SOR/98-282, 93/42/EEC, RDC 16 2013, MHLW MO 169 and TG (MD) R Sch3 preferred.
