At a Glance! Lower Columbia College (LCC) is located in the heart of historic Longview, WA. Situated at the confluence of the Columbia, Cowlitz, and Coweeman rivers, Longview offers all of the advantages of small-town living with easy access to Portland, Seattle, the Pacific Ocean, and the beautiful Cascade Mountain Range. The college serves students working toward professional and technical degrees, basic education for adults, terminal associate’s degrees, and transfer to 4-year universities. The Math and Engineering Department has nine
full-time faculty and two adjunct faculty.

  • Lecture rate is $78.33 per contact hour ($814.11 per credit).
  • Lab rate is $55.11 per contact hour ($1,212.42 per credit).
  • Field-based experience rate is $40.03 per contact hour ($1,320.99 per credit).

Examples of Duties & Responsibilities

  • Create a welcoming and supportive learning environment and use evidence-based practices to support the development of socioeconomically, racially, and linguistically diverse students.
  • Use relevant instructional technologies to enhance and support active learning in face-to-face, hybrid, and online modalities
  • Assess, evaluate, and document student learning and achievement of course outcomes, and provide feedback in ways that promote student growth and understanding.
  • Provide individualized support to promote student success.
  • Use data, self-reflection, professional development and feedback to revise your instruction, improve student success and better serve historically underrepresented and marginalized student populations.

Typical Qualifications

 

Minimum Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in mathematics, statistics, or related field with a minimum of 30 graduate credits in mathematics from an accredited institution.
  • Knowledge of instructional techniques that promote student engagement and student success in the first two years of collegiate mathematics (such as precalculus, calculus, statistics, linear algebra, or differential equations).
  • Teaching philosophy that is student-centered and focused on learning and demonstrated interest in teaching the diverse students at a community college.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated successful experience teaching mathematics at a community college.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of barriers for historically marginalized students or experience in addressing disproportionate impact and equity issues within an institution.
  • Proficiency with a Learning Management System such as Canvas, Blackboard, or MyOpenMath, and with Open Educational Resources.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach in a STEM mathematics sequence, including Calculus 1-4.
