Job Description
The Johns Hopkins Institute for NanoBioTechnology (INBT) has been established to bring together researchers in nanotechnology, biology, and medicine, and provide a platform to expand these efforts and to increase our visibility. We are currently seeking a Program Manager, an experienced individual responsible for conducting pro-active consensus building/marketing designed to promote general awareness of INBT research and education activities both internally and externally and to facilitate new engagements and maintain existing partnerships with industry.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Identifies potential new partners in both medical and non-medical industries (both US and international).
- Develops and manages relationships, contacting each targeted company via, emails, follow-up phone calls, scheduling site-visits, etc.
- Works with faculty and companies to identify opportunities for sponsored fellowships for Master’s and Ph.D. students, summer internships, Co-Op training, career placement, equipment donations, personnel exchanges, etc.
- Monitors all INBT interactions with partners to ensure that communications are going well and that company needs are met.
- Makes certain that affiliates are made aware of all activities at the Institute and are given an opportunity to participate in programs and projects of interest to them.
- Manages the INBT Master’s Co-Op program for the Whiting School of Engineering in conjunction with the Academic Program Administrator.
- Recruits/interviews external partners, students, JHU Faculty Advisors, and matching them together to enable this highly successful program to continue to grow in size.
- Provide critical real world educational opportunities for technical engineering roles within industry and the federal government.
In conjunction with the Whiting School of Engineering (WSE) Office of the Associate Dean for Research
- Assists ADR personnel to develop and facilitate a robust corporate strategy and portfolio in area that align with INBT’s interest and those similar interests that exist within WSE’s Departments and Research Centers/Institutes.
- Maintains knowledge of WSE research and further cultivates faculty and administrative relationships across the entity in order to identify appropriate research opportunities and partnerships.
- The DCP resides in INBT and reports directly to INBT’s Senior Director of Strategic Initiatives, while simultaneously reporting to the WSE Office of the Associate Dean for Research,

- Strong customer-service oriented individual who will be responsive to the needs of industry affiliates, faculty, and students.
- Ability to identify opportunities for collaborations and rigorously pursue whatever actions are necessary to facilitate relationships.
- Ability to demonstrate a proven record of success in the formation of industry/academic partnerships.
- Ability to possess a thorough knowledge of both the academic research process and the industry research and product development process.
- Ability to understand how innovations arise from academic research and are financed in industry.
- Outstanding verbal and written communications capabilities, as well as exceptional interpersonal relations skills.
- Energetic, enthusiastic, and eager to make and exploit new contacts.
- Good team player and a good team leader.
- Must be sensitive to faculty needs and work in accordance with university wide policies.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree.
- Five years related experience.
- Additional education may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
- More than five years of related experience.
- Experience in managing academic programs with external partners and stakeholders.

Role/Level/Range: ACRP/04/ME
Starting Salary Range: $64,600 - $113,300 Annually (Commensurate with experience)
Employee group: Full Time
Schedule: 5 days/week, 37.5 hours/week (e.g., M-Fri 8:30am-5:00pm)
Exempt Status: Exempt
