Job Title- PT SCRIBE-SPECIAL POPULATIONS (Pool)
Position Status- Part Time
Classification Title- Part-Time Scribe-Up to 19 hpw
Work Location- Main Campus-3600 N. Garfield, Midland, TX
Job Summary- The scribe will provide class notes to mainly disabled students in a clear, easily understood manner. The scribe will visit with the student to determine the best way to communicate and give class notes for the best benefit of the student.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Ability to take clear and accurate notes and dictation
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Attention to detail
- Comfortable working with special populations
- Demonstrated ability and commitment to working collaboratively
- Computer skills with the ability to use various software programs
- Demonstrated commitment to quality service to students
- Ability to maintain confidentiality when working with students
- Ability to communicate class notes in a clear manner to the student in a way that is most beneficial to the student
- Ability to Interact effectively with students of diverse socio-economic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of some college credit or a degree in higher education
- Academic success in college
Essential Functions
- Obtains class notes by attending the class to be scribed
- Communicate with the instructor when appropriate
- Communicates with the student in a clear manner so the student understands the subject matter
- Takes lecture notes for students in a classroom setting
- Takes dictation for students
- Fills-in and writes-out test answers for students at their instruction
- Takes student work and verbally relays information in a classroom setting
- Maintains professional boundaries in class and during tests
- Supports and promotes all faculty and students’ rights to equity in the classroom and work environment
- Learns to use and demonstrates adaptive technology to students
- Converts and edits academic media
- Handles equipment as needed in class or lab
- Must record hours worked and turn in time sheets to the appropriate supervisor when they are due
- Interact effectively with students of diverse socio-economic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds
- Other duties as assigned
Physical Demands
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time
- Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time
- The person in this position needs to move to other locations on campus occasionally
- The person in this position needs to move around the classroom, lab, and office to assist students
- Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation
- Use of manual dexterity
- The person in this position frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information
- Frequently moves equipment or paperwork weighing up to 25 pounds
- Office, classroom, and laboratory setting
Security Sensitivity- All Midland College positions are security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code §51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. An employment offer is contingent on completion of a satisfactory criminal background investigation.
Min Salary- $11.00/hr (High School or no degree); $13.00/hr (Associate's Degree)
Max Salary- $15.50/hr (Bachelor's Degree); $17.50/hr (Master's Degree or higher)
Pay Statement- Salary is commensurate with educational qualifications and experience.
