Research Technologist
Job Description
After entry-level training under the general supervision of a faculty investigator or laboratory supervisor, we are seeking a Research Technologist who will perform both routine assays and experimental techniques in the study of hepatitis B virus and the immune system in a research laboratory. Additional responsibilities will include contributing to general maintenance of the laboratory, equipment, and supplies.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Follow established procedures or protocols and utilize aseptic techniques to perform experiments associated with molecular biology, immunology, serology, and/or virology.
- Perform routine molecular biology assays to explore mechanisms influencing viral outcome and infectivity; LCM (laser capture microdissection), nucleic acid extractions and purifications, gel electrophoresis, real-time PCR, droplet digital PCR, sequencing, etc.
- Ensure rigorous documentation of experimental planning, experimental methods, and experimental results updated on a daily basis.
- Use lab computers for data entry.
- Maintain accurate data records and laboratory notebook.
- Monitor and maintain a large inventory of human tissue specimens and nucleic acid samples.
- Operate basic laboratory equipment such as centrifuge, pH meter, analytical balance, scintillation counter, spectrophotometer, light microscope, plate washer, and/or utilize biological safety cabinet.
- May also utilize sophisticated instrumentation such as flow cytometer, spectrophotometer, luminometer, thermal cycler, light cycler, droplet generator, LCM, etc.
- Maintain and make necessary adjustments to equipment, e.g. calibrating, and alignment.
- Prepare solutions, reagents, and stains following standard laboratory formulas and procedures.
- Monitor inventory levels, order materials and supplies in accordance with established policies and procedures counts orders upon receipt.
- Additional responsibilities related to the daily laboratory operations will be assigned as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Some related post-undergraduate work experience preferred.

Starting Salary Range: $15.70 - $26.25 HRLY ($43,000 targeted; Commensurate with experience)
