Southwest Youth and Family Services has been a leading resource for counseling, education and youth development in West Seattle and Southwest King County for 45 years. We are seeking a dynamic, creative Advancement Director to join our team.

This position is full time, hybrid 36 hours per week (exempt position), with a salary range of $80,496 to $104,832 annually. Benefits include employer paid medical, dental, vision, disability, short term and long-term disability insurance; and life insurance. Generous sick and vacation time including 10 paid holidays and a 2-week paid holiday break in December.

The Advancement Director is responsible for the overall management of the Advancement department, including supervision of Advancement staff and volunteers, creation and implementation of the Advancement plan, and fostering board member involvement. The Advancement Director will maintain a sustainable funding base for agency programs, including stewardship of key individual donor and community funder relationships; leading fundraising efforts; and developing and maintaining positive communication with individuals and the community.

As a member of the Executive Team, the Advancement Director fills a critical role in overall agency management and ensuring fidelity to our values, mission and vision for the organization.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Development and Fundraising

  • Identify and cultivate major gift prospects, and solicit major gifts in coordination with Executive Director, board and other volunteers.
  • Establish and maintain in person relationships with existing and potential financial supporters, including private and public organizations, via personal contact and mass communications.
  • Grant Management: Identify, track, apply for and steward all grant relationships. Consult with Sr. Project Manager and contracted grant writers as needed on contract writing and tracking of reports.
  • Manage annual fundraising events including planning, execution and evaluation, in coordination with board members and volunteers.
  • In coordination with the board community engagement committee, identify, plan and support implementation of fundraising initiatives, such as annual appeals and other opportunities.

 

Community Outreach:

  • Identify and implement effective public communication including social media, collateral, website, e-newsletters and any other public facing communication efforts.
  • In coordination with community engagement committee and Executive Director, identify and manage community networking opportunities aimed at increasing public awareness and engagement with the agency.

 

Administration and Recordkeeping:

  • Staff Board of Directors’ Community Engagement Committee
  • Monitor and evaluate progress toward fundraising goals, prepare reports for the board and recommend changes or additions to the plan, as needed.
  • In coordination with Advancement Team, maintain current and accurate donor and fundraising data base, including data entry, development of protocols, and creating reports as needed.
  • Manage and produce acknowledgements and thank you letters for financial and in-kind donations.

 

Leadership & Management:

  • Serve as lead for Advancement Team, managing two full-time staff to facilitate marketing, communications, fundraising and grant management for the agency as a whole.
  • Serve as active member on Executive Team; attend and participate in team meetings as a work priority.
  • Participate actively in development of agency and program policies and procedures.
  • Function as "agency management" as needed in absence of Executive Director, in conjunction with other Executive Team members.
  • Represent Southwest Youth and Family Services in community forums, meetings and other environments as needed, or requested by Executive Director.
  • Other duties as assigned by Executive Director.
Requirements:

 


Education and Experience:

  • BA in related field and 5 years of experience and training.
  • Thorough knowledge of and experience in nonprofit organizational development and operations.
  • Proven track record of success in fundraising, grant writing and donor solicitations.
  • Ability to work effectively in intermittently stressful, rapidly changing environment.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with local funders and community institutions.
  • Ability to work with and manage volunteers in a fundraising setting.
  • Experience in budget development and monitoring.
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience.
  • Ability to work independently and in teams as required.
  • Commitment to the vision, values, and mission of Southwest Youth and Family Services
  • Demonstrated management and leadership abilities, including strong planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to approach work with cultural humility, an openness in recognizing biases and take actions towards mitigating implicit bias
  • Commit to Racial Equity and Social Justice movements within the agency by actively participating in caucuses, meetings and associated groups.

 

Other Requirements:

  • Effective written and oral communication skills and computer literacy
  • Ability to produce documents in Microsoft Word and Excel, at a minimum.
  • Strong experience with fundraising software; experience with Bloomerang a plus
  • Valid WA State Driver’s license, proof of insurance, and reliable transportation
  • Clear driving record with no more than two moving violations in the last three years
  • Willingness to submit to and ability to pass a criminal background check
