Research Technologist
Job Description
The Johns Hopkins University Department of Genetic Medicine is seeking a Research Technologist who will work under the general supervision of a faculty investigator.
Special Duties & Responsibilities:
- The primary duties include, but are not limited to, independently performing routine research testing and contributing to the general maintenance of the lab, supplies and equipment.
- Use basic science knowledge to learn techniques/methods of the lab.
- Performs laboratory experiments by following common protocols or with instruction.
- This may require techniques associated with molecular biology.
- May also be responsible for tissue bank inventory and management.
- Must operate basic laboratory equipment such as centrifuge, pH meter, analytical balance, spectrophotometer, light microscope, and utilizes laminar flow hood.
- Operates lab computers for data entry and extraction.
- Will utilize in vivo models in experiments following experimental protocols, monitors animals and maintains health records in accordance with USDA and AALAC guidelines.
- Prepares tissue for study utilizing histochemical techniques.
- Will undertake cell culture of animal and human cells including induced pluripotent stem cells, in accordance with approved institutional ethical practices and HIPAA.
- Inoculates drug/chemical agent, sacrifices and dissects animal remains as required.
- Maintains accurate data records.
- Prepares solutions, reagents, and stains following standard laboratory formulas and procedures.
- Monitors inventory levels, orders material and supplies in accordance with established policies and procedures, counts orders upon receipt.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry or related field
Preferred Qualifications
Some related post-undergraduate work experience.

Starting Salary Range: $15.70 - $26.25 HRLY ($23,680 targeted; Commensurate with experience)
