Position Summary
With direction from the Director of Infrastructure and Security, the Infrastructure and Security Operations Manager will execute tasks and requirements that support the operational and performance goals of the Infrastructure and Security team. The Infrastructure and Security Operations Manager will be the primary responder to system alerts and metrics requiring immediate attention, coordinating responses, and taking action, when necessary. Additionally, this position will work with other team members to ensure supported technologies achieve high levels of system availability, usability, security, and client service.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
- Assist in leading the department by helping to define objectives, set priorities, and perform technical duties that drive successful project completion and align with the College’s strategic planning goals
- Tune, manage, and monitor alert solutions and coordinate appropriate technical responses to security and performance alerts and metrics.
- Work with the Information Security Officer and others to implement and enforce security policies, procedures, and controls to protect infrastructure systems and data from unauthorized access, cyber threats, and compliance breaches.
- Assist in managing the Data Center infrastructure which include server administration, database infrastructure, virtualization, security, large-scale data storage systems (SAN) and data backup administration, and environmental controls.
- Work with the user community to evaluate current operations practices and use these evaluations to insure the continued effectiveness and efficiency of the infrastructure.
- Ensure the performance, availability, and security of all College systems are monitored.
- Identify the problems preventing the advancement of the systems and either develop a remedy to these problems or seek assistance to resolve the problems.
- Coordinate with the other Information Technology Departments to provide comprehensive and integrated technology support in accordance with needs of the College.
- Provide second- and third-tier technical assistance in routing, routing protocols, network design, server applications, data communications on WAN connections, network operating systems, and server hardware.
- Manage security configurations and deploy system software patches in compliance with established policies.
- Assists the Director of Infrastructure and Security with the annual budget, strategic initiatives, and other planning processes.
- Provide input as to the feasibility of new systems and enhancements, and assist with the creation of detailed design, timetables, and procedures for the system.
- Create and maintain current and up-to-date technical documentation.
- Serve on College committees, including personnel search committees, as requested.
- Work collaboratively with others (e.g., colleagues, stakeholders, vendors) to accomplish functions and responsibilities
- Assume additional duties as assigned by immediate supervisor
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution in a technical discipline preferred or commensurate work experience
- Four years of high-level experience in Enterprise Infrastructure Operations
- Hands-on experience with advanced network technologies such as, but not limited to, a virtualized server environment, VLAN, DNS, VPN, SMTP, IDS/IDP, DHCP, TELNET, FTP, switches, and firewalls
- Diversified experience with academic networking environment with community college experience
