Instructional position in the Associate Degree Nursing Program.
Specific Position Duties
Teach a variety of courses of the Associate Degree Nursing program. Adhere to the requirements, standards and guidelines set forth by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas; National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission; and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. Maintains up-to-date knowledge in the teaching field by reading current literature, participating in continuing education and professional development, and attending conferences, etc.; Demonstrates willingness and ability to teach various courses, times, locations, and delivery methods, as needed and as reasonably requested by the college; Utilizes appropriately challenging coursework to help students realize their full potential as learners; Provides students with written expectations that are congruent with the Odessa College and Associate Degree nursing vision and policies, e.g., syllabi, policies, assignment instructions, graded evaluations, etc.; Develops and administers tests which are appropriate to course content, current to best practices in nursing, and appropriate in rigor, including a comprehensive final exam measuring overall grasp of course objectives; By various ways and means of instructing students, affirms the worth and dignity of all persons and the right of all persons to learn; Evaluates and grades student class, laboratory and clinical work, assignments and papers in a timely manner, also in a manner that is constructive to the students’ learning; Plan, coordinate and supervise students in all laboratory and clinical experiences; Maintain student attendance records, grades and other required course specific details; Maintains an appropriate learning and assessment climate in the classroom, whether traditional, web, or distance, which encourages the free exchange of ideas while defending academic honesty and objectivity; Prepares adequately for class and arrives promptly at class meetings, labs, and any other scheduled instructional activities; Delivers material in a clear and understandable manner; Addresses student concerns, i.e., comments, questions, and input, both in class and via posted office hours, timely electronic communication, and other suitable means; Effectively handles routine procedures necessary for the successful, day-to-day operation of the department as delegated by the department chair; Submits required reports and schedules in a timely manner to the department chair; Maintains effective relationships and collaborates with professional counterparts throughout the college and the community; Maintains individual student advisement on degree plans and degree applications in order to comply with completion requirements; Plans, evaluates and revises the curriculum, course content, course materials and methods of instruction in conjunction with other faculty, coordinator and department chair; Assists with recruiting, marketing, and outreach for department programs; Advise students on academic and vocational curricula and on current issues; Maintains regularly scheduled office hours in order to advise, mentor and assist students; Actively participates in college functions and events, and engages in community service.
Minimum Qualifications
Masters degree from a regionally accredited institution in nursing or a masters degree in another field with a bachelor’s degree in nursing with 6 hours of graduate level nursing courses from a regionally accredited institution; current license or privilege to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Texas.
Work Hours
Varies according to schedule. Clinicals may occur evenings or weekends, and at extension sites.Posting Number
