The Small Animal Nephrology and Urology service at NC State Veterinary Hospital is a busy service that operates within the Small Animal Internal Medicine and Emergency Critical Care services and is made up of 2 founding members of the ACVNU and 4 faculty who are current residents of the ACVNU (3 ACVIM, 3 ACVECC). The service is further supported by 2 Extracorporeal Fellows and 9 Internal Medicine Residents. The successful candidate will be expected to be an active member of the section, attend resident training rounds/reading groups, and contribute to our delivery of exceptional patient care.

The Nephrology and Urology Service at the NC State Veterinary Hospital is accepting
applications for a 12–24-month Fellowship in Advanced Urinary Procedures and
Extracorporeal Therapy, depending on the candidate’s interest.
The duties of the Fellow will include:
- 50% extracorporeal therapy duty: primary responsibility is to assist with the management of elective and emergency extracorporeal sessions. During the latter half of this fellowship, the Fellow will be on-call for emergency extracorporeal therapy session. Primary case responsibility will be maintained by the primary specialty service (usually Internal Medicine but sometimes triage).
- 50% advanced urinary procedures: The Fellow will participate in advanced urinary procedures, including but not limited to stent placement, ectopic ureter ablation, renal sclerotherapy, and lithotripsy. The Fellow will assist in the training of residents in these procedures.
The successful candidate will be board-eligible or -certified by the ACVIM. Time for board preparation (up to 6 weeks) is available for board eligible candidates.
Additional benefits provided to the incumbent include:
- Endourology training: training program in one of two advanced endourology techniques offered through AMC or equivalent training opportunity. The program will sponsor cost of the course

We recommended that the applicant obtain letters of reference from postgraduate clinical training (e.g.,internship, residency) mentors who can attest to the clinical proficiency and pleasant personality of the applicant. Factors favoring an applicant’s acceptance to the program include superior clinical skills, a strong academic record, and excellent communication and interpersonal relationship skills.
Required License or Certification
Must be eligible for North Carolina Veterinary licensure and/ or faculty certificate under
the supervision of the NCSU College of Veterinary Medicine, Veterinary Health Complex.
