Sr. Research Program Coordinator II
Job Description
The Department of International Health is seeking a Sr. Research Program Coordinator II. This position is to provide support to the Center for Human Nutrition (CHN) at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health on a new strategic initiative, in partnership with the Bloomberg American Health Initiative, to grow their research, stakeholder, and policy engagement around food systems and food policy in the US. The person in this position will work closely with CHN faculty to coordinate, manage, and implement a diverse set of activities to advance three key goals: 1) Establish a Food Systems Innovation Hub and Community Kitchen; 2) Establish a food systems change advisory board for the CHN; 3) support new food systems scholars program for BSPH students. The individual in this position will engage with local, regional, and national stakeholders, write funding applications, conduct strategic planning activities (SWOT analyses, stakeholder engagement and capacity building), manage and review student funding applications, and other activities that will support growing capacity and partnerships between CHN, the Bloomberg School, and a variety of individuals and organizations around key food policy and food systems issues particularly related to addressing food insecurity, poor diet quality, diet quality and diet-related disease disparities, food equity, and promoting food systems that support environmentally sustainable and healthy food choices for all.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Oversee the administrative and implementation of strategic planning activities and protocols. As part of project teams, collaborate with faculty, develop protocols, develop SOPs, and oversee study -related activities (e.g., participant recruitment, data collection) for one or more studies.
- Communicate with study team members across multiple sites and coordinate research team meetings.
- Communicate and engage with multi-disciplinary and intersectoral stakeholders within BSPH, JHU, the local Baltimore community, and beyond.
- Engage with funders and fundraising/development teams within BSPH and JHU to advance the goals of the CHN.
- Assist with IRB submissions, including development and writing of protocols, consent forms, and other source materials
- Program and maintain data collection instruments in Qualtrics or RedCap.
- Participate in the development, testing and evaluation of manuals, questionnaires, and coding structures for efficient collection and management of data.
- Hire, train, and oversee day-to-day work of research assistants or other partners involved in the strategic planning activities
- Directly engage with JHU and BSPH fundraising and development departments to pursue funding opportunities for the Food Systems Hub and Community Kitchen.
- Write grant and funding applications; engage with funders to advocate for CHN priorities.
- Meet regularly with the Faculty Directors to review progress and activities.
- Conduct literature searches to provide background information. Abstract and index information based on knowledge of subject matter.
- Report results of descriptive analyses in the forms of tables and graphs and communicate findings to the research team; present data at meetings.
- Support recruitment of advisory board members; planning and execution of advisory board meetings, workshops, and other convenings with partners and key stakeholders.
- Assist with research reporting and dissemination, including writing of progress reports, policy briefs, scientific manuscripts, and preparation of presentations for diverse audiences.
- Perform administrative duties, including submission of procurement requests, coordination and maintenance of contracts and data use agreements, work with finance office to manage study budgets, scheduling of meetings, and assistance formatting manuscripts in accordance with journal submission guidelines.
- Perform related work as required.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in related discipline. Related Master's preferred.
- Five years related experience.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s or advanced degree in public health, public policy, nutrition, food systems planning, or social and behavioral sciences or related field from an accredited college or university.
- Experience with fundraising, grant writing, community-based/participatory research, and strategic planning.
- Prior experience working on research studies related to food and nutrition, food systems, community engagement.
