Depending on experience of the selected candidate, this position will be hired at the CSW2 or CSW3 level. Less than two (2) years experience qualifies as CSW level; Three (3) years + LCSW experience qualifies as CSW3.
The Adult Congenital Heart Disease (ACHD) social worker is responsible for the evaluation and ongoing psychosocial assessments of congenital heart disease patients in both the outpatient clinic and hospital settings. Individuals in this role are encouraged to be innovative and discuss/share their ideas and plans for psychosocial well-being in adults with CHD with the ACHD team. Transition planning for patients moving from the pediatric setting to adult care is an integral role of the social worker.
The ACHD social worker facilitates patient and caregiver support groups and participates in various committees (including the patient and family advisory council). This individual is highly collaborative; partnering with multidisciplinary staff from other departments and programs both within the UCSD system and in the community. The candidate is provided opportunities (and encouraged to participate) in education, research and presentations at local, national, and international level.
Position includes crisis intervention, mandated reporting, and referral coordination of health and mental health services with community providers. The social worker is responsible for education and advocacy of patients, families and/or significant others. The position has the joint support and supervision of the Manager for Cardiovascular Operations and the Transplant Social Work Supervisor
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSA Master's Degree from an accredited school of social work and possession of the requirements necessary for application for licensure as a clinical social worker as determined by the California Board of Behavioral Science Examiners.
Must possess the knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.
Minimum of two to three (2 - 3) years post MSW experience.

Excellent skills to communicate and influence effectively with all levels of staff, physicians, patients, and external constituents, both verbally and in writing.
- Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) (Preferably by the state of California).
- Experience conducting individual and group therapy sessions for mental health evaluation and promotion.
- Bilingual in both English and Spanish.
- Prior experience working with both pediatric and adult patients and their families.
- Experience working in an ambulatory clinic.
- Experience with care coordination.
- Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
- Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
- Able to travel to any UCSD or affiliate clinic/hospital location.
Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $95,626 - $125,990 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $45.80 - $60.34
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
