The City of O'Fallon is hiring a Police Communications Officer for our Dispatch unit in the City's Police Department. This position is responsible participating in departmental communication operations, including responding to emergency calls for service. Our Police Communications Officers can expect to make a starting hourly rate of $27.01 - $33.73 (top out) depending on experience; the position yearly rate ranges from $56,180.80 to $70,158.40 (top out) We also offer excellent benefits including health, vision, dental, employer-paid life insurance, long-term disability, a MOLAGERs retirement pension, 11 holidays, 1 personal holiday, vacation time, paid sick time, a deferred compensation plan, employee assistance, tuition assistance, optional identity theft insurance, and a discounted fitness membership.
We're looking for someone who will use excellent judgement skills to make quick decisions and can perform well in tense or difficult situations. This person should be able to learn department policies and procedures and have knowledge of modern office practices, procedures and equipment. Knowledge of enhanced 911 system operations, emergency telephone and radio communication procedures, the operation of telephone, radio and CAD systems, and law enforcement terminology is preferred. The shifts for this position rotate throughout the month.
As Police Communications Officer, your duties and responsibilities will include:
- Operating a two-way radio to communicate with field personnel; dispatching officers and connecting multiple agencies
- Monitoring officers during calls responding to emergencies; documenting calls
- Responding to 911 calls; determining the nature of emergency; prioritizing multiple needs and dispatching appropriate responders
- Providing information to officers in the field; researching computerized databases
- Answering non-emergency calls; providing information and assistance, transferring calls to appropriate personnel
- Entering and maintaining warrant and other information reported to terminal agencies; validating and recalling warrants as directed
- Training for and responding appropriately to natural and man-made disasters
- Restoring computerized systems following power outages
- Assisting in maintaining current list of employee contact information
- Monitoring surveillance cameras and security doors
- Monitoring and responding to weather emergencies
- Monitoring inmate arrest status and coordinating commitments and releases with courts
- Providing credible testimony in municipal, state and federal court when called upon
