The Senior Survey Crew Chief is a seasoned professional responsible for overseeing and managing surveying operations. This role involves leading a team of survey technicians, providing technical expertise, and ensuring the successful execution of various land survey projects. The Senior Survey Crew Chief plays a crucial role in maintaining high-quality standards, meeting project objectives, and mentoring junior team members.

Responsibilities

Team Leadership:

    Provide leadership and mentorship to the survey team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
  • Assign tasks, coordinate workflow, and ensure the team's adherence to project timelines.

Project Planning and Coordination:

  • Collaborate with project managers and clients to develop project plans, including defining objectives, scope, and resource requirements.
  • Participate in project kickoff meetings, contributing technical insights and expertise.

Field Operations:

  • Oversee and participate in surveying activities, including measurements, boundary determinations, and construction staking.
  • Operate and maintain advanced surveying equipment, ensuring accurate and precise data collection.

Boundary Determination:

  • Conduct in-depth research on land records, legal documents, and historical surveys to determine property boundaries.
  • Provide expert guidance on complex boundary and easement issues.

Control Networks and Topographic Mapping:

  • Establish and maintain control points, benchmarks, and traverse surveys for accurate data collection.
  • Lead topographic surveys and mapping projects, ensuring comprehensive and precise results.

Quality Control and Compliance:

  • Implement and enforce quality control measures to ensure accuracy and completeness of survey data.
  • Stay abreast of industry standards, regulations, and best practices, ensuring compliance in all surveying activities.

Data Processing and Reporting:

  • Oversee the transfer of field data to computer systems and collaborate with survey technicians in data processing.
  • Review and approve survey reports, maps, and legal descriptions for accuracy and completeness.

Client Communication:

  • Act as a key point of contact for clients, providing updates on project progress, addressing concerns, and ensuring client satisfaction.
  • Participate in client meetings, offering technical expertise and insights.

Record Keeping:

  • Maintain meticulous records of survey activities, field notes, and documentation.
  • Ensure the proper archiving and storage of survey data for future reference.

Equipment Management:

  • Oversee the maintenance, calibration, and repair of surveying equipment.
  • Evaluate and recommend new technologies and equipment to enhance surveying capabilities.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in surveying, geomatics, or a related field.
  • Land Surveyor In Training (LSIT) OR Professional Land Surveyor (PLS)
  • Extensive experience in land surveying with a focus on leadership roles.
  • Proficient in operating and maintaining advanced surveying equipment and software.
  • In-depth knowledge of boundary determination, topographic mapping, and control network establishment.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent problem-solving abilities.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations and commitment to maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Physical fitness and the ability to work outdoors in various conditions.

The pay range for this California position is $35.00- $50.00 per hour; however, base pay offered may be higher or lower depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience of the candidate. Restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
