Salary range: The posted UC Salary scales set the minimum pay at the appointment as determined by appointment type and if applicable, rank and/or step. The base pay range for this position is $90,000 - $400,000. Salary is negotiated annually. Additional compensation may be available if the position includes membership in the Health Sciences Compensation Plan. Position description

The Department of Neurosciences at the University of California San Diego (UCSD) (http://neurosciences.ucsd.edu/) is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff and student body and seeks a neurologist to lead our interdisciplinary group as a professor and Director of the Parkinson and Other Movement Disorders Center (POMDC).

The POMDC at UCSD is committed to the tripartite academic mission of excellence in clinical care, teaching, research and values individuals who are committed to advancing diversity, equity and inclusion. The POMDC has a large research footprint, including a mix of Non-Profit, Industry, PI-Initiated and NIH grant funding supporting movement disorders research. Participant recruitment for the POMDC comes largely from patients seen at movement disorder clinics by division faculty. The program is highly translational and has strengths in "bench to bedside" treatments and "hospital to community" interdisciplinary translational research.

The recruitment of a clinical scientist physician whose own research program aligns with the goals and resources of the POMDC will enhance the research and clinical aims of the Center. The POMDC and its fellowship program will benefit from a senior clinician researcher and leader in the field who will play an important role in teaching, patient care and research and who can, at the same time, step into administrative and leadership roles.

The successful candidate will provide outpatient care to movement disorder patients and mentor junior faculty and teach graduate students, residents, and clinical and research fellows/staff. The candidate will work in our hospitals and clinics at the La Jolla and Hillcrest locations and will be encouraged to interact with a wide range of clinical, translational and basic science programs at UCSD to enhance the national recognition of the Center's research and practice. The successful candidate will lead the deployment of the program's significant philanthropic endowment and its robust program in donor stewardship.

Furthermore, the successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the POMDC designation of Parkinson's disease Center of Excellence by the Parkinson's Foundation as well as the LBD Center of Excellence designation by the Lewy Body Dementia Association and Cure PSP Center of Care.

The appropriate series and appointment at the Associate or Full Professor level will be based on the candidate's background and experience.

As a member of the Health Sciences Compensation Plan, the appointee should be aware that there are limitations on outside professional activities and clinical moonlighting is expressly prohibited. Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

Candidates must have a MD or equivalent or MD/PhD in health related fields.

Candidates must have completed fellowship training in Movement Disorders.

Candidates must have or be eligible for a California medical license or equivalent certification/permit as determined by the Medical Board of California.

Candidates must have at least six years of experience in clinic care and clinical teaching and must have a track record of funded research in Parkinson's disease and/or related Movement Disorders.

Preferred qualifications

Candidates with clinical and translational research and administrative experience are preferred.

Candidates with a track record of educational missions in an academic medical center, academic accomplishments and experience as a physician-scientist with a national/international reputation are also preferred.
