About the Department

The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) Business Operations Unit (CBO) Unit processes financial and other transactions for the College. Financial transactions include vouchers, JV’s, idt’s, requisitions, marketplace approval, P-card reconciliations, personal reimbursements, travel reimbursements, receipts, check deposits, gift deposits, and University Invoices. Most transactions are created and approved within the Business Center. The CBO provides oversight and fiscal monitoring for all funds (state/federal/trust and contract and grant).

Essential Job Duties

The primary purpose of this Accounting Technician position is to serve as a point of contact to process financial transactions, monitor work and workflow, and resolve issues for assigned CALS department(s) in the college for state and federal appropriations, sponsored programs, sales and service, gifts, foundations, and trust funds. This position will be physically located within the department(s) they support but will report directly to the CBO.

Minimum Experience/Education

High School Diploma or equivalency and one year of experience in accounting work; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Other Required Qualifications

  • Experience in accounting work; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Understanding and experience with payment/credit card reconciliations, basic accounting principles, and functions.
  • Must have the ability to make decisions, manage time and workflow, and effectively communicate with individuals and groups to ensure understanding.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in compliance management for contracts and grants.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of state and federal spending guidelines and gifts and foundations accounting.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft Financials, including WOLF Reports.
