The Manager of Student Engagement and Leadership is responsible for providing support to the Student Engagement and Leadership (SEAL) Team at Prince George’s Community College. The responsibility includes the administering of co-curricular operations, services, activities and programs at the Largo Campus and Extension Centers; the coordination, registration and programming of the student organizations; and supervision of Student Engagement Coordinator and Student Engagement Assistants.

 

Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION
    • Bachelor’s degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education, Student Development, Counseling, or related areas required
    • Master’s degree preferred

 

EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in higher education and student development/retention/persistence programs in one or more of the following areas: new student orientation programs, student leadership training and development programs, and student advising/mentoring programs is required
  • Two years of supervisory experience required

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Manages the implementation and administering of co-curricular activities program.
  • Manages marketing and advertising of student events, programs and activities.
  • Identifies and purchases resources and supplies to implement programs, events and activities. Advises and maintains compliance with the criteria and training for the National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS) and National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS) Honor Societies.
  • Assist with administering and managing the Student Engagement and Leadership budget, including Fund 41 and 42 accounts, in accordance with the college policy.
  • Hires, supervise, train and evaluate the Student Engagement Coordinators and Student Engagement Assistants.
  • Promotes student engagement and involvement.
  • Assist with managing the unit’s social media platforms
  • Assist with the development and assessment of the unit’s events and provide regular reports and recommendations based on assessment data.
  • Manages the process for student organizations to register and become recognized as a student group.
  • Assist the Program Director with the planning and implementation the New Student Convocation.
  • Manages programing for Week of Welcome during the Fall and Spring Semesters.
  • Develops and oversees the orientation and training for all student led clubs and organizations.
  • Assists the Program Director with developing and implementing student leadership programs for all students.
  • Assist with the development of policies, handbooks, and an accountability model for student organizations that ensures compliance with standards related to student organizations in areas including but not limited to event planning, budget management, club succession, and leadership selection.
  • Assists with managing the vendor procedures for Student Engagement events.
  • Assist the Program Director in the planning and implementation of International/Multicultural, Diversity, and LGBTQ+ programs.
  • Manages appropriate events, programs, and activities in support of the College’s vision, mission, and strategic plan.

 

 
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Ability to work with community college students and student organizations.
  • Excellent communication skills including verbal, written and interpersonal.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in conducting presentations, training and leadership development workshops
  • Demonstrated knowledge with budget planning and maintenance
  • Demonstrated knowledge in student leadership development.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in co-curricular activities programming for a diverse student population.
  • Experience in working with and advising student organizations.
  • Knowledge of producing materials accurately and in a timely manner through the use of word processing.
  • Ability to perform detailed work independently, as well as in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to think critically about, model, and implement concepts of diversity, inclusion, and intercultural relations in operations, systems, programs, and partnerships.
  • Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Excel, etc.), the Adobe Creative Suites, and social media platforms.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with students representing diverse backgrounds, circumstances, and perspectives.
  • Ability to work a flexible work schedule including evenings and weekends as needed
  • Experience with database management used in Higher Education i.e. Colleague, Navigate, Canvas, and Starfish.

 

Job Requirements
 
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to a, personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. No significant climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written standard English.
  • As required by the 1986 Immigration Act, be prepared to present acceptable documentation showing your identity and that you are a U.S. citizen or an alien who is authorized to work.
  • A background investigation will be conducted prior to the offer of employment. A signed authorization for the release of personal information will be required if selected for an interview.
