SUMMARY


Facilitate the customer service center and provides educational assistance to the general public, especially the economically disadvantages, by providing general information and assistance with the application process and referrals to external sources of funding and social service agencies.


Direct internal communications within the Houston Community College System on behalf of students. Additionally, this position will provide secretarial and clerical support for the department as needed.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


Serve as primary customer service representative to promote and ensure student access, success and to promote customer satisfaction. 


Perform document tracking to better serve students; collects, managers and maintain sensitive records (i.e., financial statements, college records, medical records, citizenship documents, divorce decrees, etc.)


Analyze and interpret federal, state and institutional regulations to assist students with the application for Federal, State and institutional funds. 


Communicate orally and in writing with students to ensure accuracy and completeness of application in order to meet appropriate timeless for registration and payment of fees. 


Transmit, electronically, student financial aid applications and needed updates (EDE).


Assist with financial aid orientation.


Provide guidance and assistance for students making application online.


Answer telephone calls, greets visitors, respond to routine inquiries, take and relay messages.


Use word processing software and student information to develop correspondence and retrieve information.


Maintain inventory and orders office equipment and services within prescribed procedures and contractual agreements.


Establish and maintain student and program files and records.


Schedule student appointments.


Generate award letters.


QUALIFICATIONS


To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential duties and responsibilities listed above. The qualifications listed below are representative of the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.

EDUCATION
High school diploma or GED equivalent required. Associate’s degree preferred.

EXPERIENCE
Minimum of one (1) year experience working in a financial aid office preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Proficiency in personal computer use is necessary

Must have excellent interpersonal skills
