About Us
Computer Science at Surrey has an international reputation for research and teaching and two thriving research centres; Nature Inspired Computing and Engineering (NICE) and Surrey Centre for Cyber Security, which has recently been named Cyber University of the Year at the National Cyber Awards 2023. The Times Higher Education rated Surrey 55th in the world for impact. In the area of Computer Science, we ranked 7th in the national Research Excellence Framework 2021 for the quality of outputs submitted.
Computer Science at Surrey has two thriving research groups, each with an international reputation for research: Nature Inspired Computing and Engineering (NICE) and Surrey Centre for Cyber Security (SCCS). SCCS has five research themes: security and privacy; cryptography; verification; distributed systems; networked systems. SCCS members are active in at least one theme, with several working also across themes. SCCS is also leading a cross-cutting research activity on digital resilience. NICE focuses on advancing the foundations of machine learning and artificial intelligence. Primarily, NICE investigates deep learning, as well as explainable/interpretable models, and extends their applicability to natural language processing, robotics, healthcare, and other areas.
About the role
This post offers an exciting opportunity for you to join a growing cohort of like-minded academics who are collaborating in news ways to find novel answers to global issues, especially at the interface between security and machine learning and in data science.
Of particular interest would be experience in Software Security.
About you
The post holder must have:
- A higher professional qualification, normally a doctoral degree.
- Proven academic leadership.
- Achievement in scholarship and research at a national level.
- Evidence of a leadership/development role in high quality teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
- Evidence of making a contribution to the administration and general life and work of an academic institution.
- It is expected that the post-holder will also contribute to high quality teaching in computer science at undergraduate and post-graduate level and to supervise undergraduate projects and dissertations.
- A solid contribution to research, teaching and leadership.
