Technical Associate II, Traverso Lab

Job Description

TECHNICAL ASSOCIATE II, Mechanical Engineering (MechE)-Traverso Lab, to join a multidisciplinary group supporting initiatives focused on developing clinically-relevant solutions to gastrointestinal drug delivery systems. Responsibilities include designing drug delivery systems for testing in small/large animals; rapid prototyping via 3D printing/machining; performing in vivo and in vitro tasks such as dissections for evaluating interactions between prototype and tissue, setting up experiments with gastrointestinal tissue ex vivo, and in vivo studies (pharmacokinetics, toxicity) in animal models; formulating and performing physicochemical/stability characterization of excipients for oral drug delivery; statistical analysis; ordering materials; laboratory upkeep; summarizing/documenting results/findings; researching and providing content for presentations/grants/fellowship proposals; ensuring lab safety; and providing lab training and coordination.  

Job Requirements:

REQUIRED:  B.S. (master’s preferred) in mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, material science, chemical engineering, bioengineering, or related field; four years’ experience (co-ops/internships considered); self-motivation; willingness to learn; strong organizational, interpersonal, communication, and documentation skills; ability to work independently and on teams; comfort summarizing and reporting results to researchers; commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work; meticulous attention to detail; and ability to maintain a safe work environment.  A biomedical engineering research background and hands-on experience/rapid prototyping skills would be ideal (training to gain further skills will be available). Those with relevant experience in five or more of the following are encouraged to apply:  CAD/CAM (SolidWorks/HSMWorks, Fusion360); biomedical device design and development; material characterization (biomaterials properties, scanning electron microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, FT-IR); additive manufacturing/3D printing (FDM and SLA); subtractive manufacturing (manual and CNC machining); plastic molding (extrusion, injection, compression); polymer science/polymer formulation; drug delivery/pharmaceutical sciences; and ex vivo tissue handling (tissue processing for histological analysis)/in vivo studies in animal models.  Job #22350
